Fintastic: The 1957 Chrysler New Yorker
Join us as we examine one of our vintage finds from the 2014 Greystone Mansion Concours d’Elegance…Virgil Exner, the designer of the 1957 Chrysler New Yorker, called this design the "Forward Look". I would think the owners, Joel Ashley and Don Andres of Los Angeles, would agree with that. This is one of the most fintastic designs out there, and you know how much we love all things finned. What lies under the hood, you ask? A Hemi! That's right, all New Yorkers sported a 392 Hemi to get them down the road.If the nice cushy interior does not make you think the car rides like a dream, then how about "Torsion-Aire" suspension to make a great ride even better for crusin' around town. The New Yorkers used a torsion bar front suspension with a leaf spring rear to help improve the ride quality of this beautiful land yacht.
We saved the best for last - those fins...starting right behind the doors, the rear fins continued upward, as if reaching for the sky.We have more to come from the Greystone Concours d'Elegance, so don't motor off!
