Cruise Night: Bob’s Broiler, Downey, CA
What do Bob Dylan, The X-Files, Madonna, and Mad Men all have in common? They’ve used this Googie style coffee shop as a filming location.
What was once Johnie’s Boiler in 1958 is now Bob’s (of Bob’s Big Boy fame) Broiler, located on Firestone Boulevard in Downey, CA. Thankfully, vintage car nuts can visit this amazing historical coffee shop on Wednesdays for their weekly cruise night.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by this sleek Caddy. This classic white beauty, with subtle yet elegant pinstriping, will soon be featured on the cover of one of OPG’s upcoming catalogs.
Keeping it company was this lavender and white number. Outfitted with whitewalls and classic chrome details, this car was a stunner. The blending of colors from white to lavender across the back was a nice touch.
The quality and variety of vehicles did not disappoint. From stock to modified, these classics were all appealing.
This devilish Caddillac sported a beautiful matte black paint job and a decidedly macabre motif, so much so that I almost expected Elvira, Mistress of the Dark to emerge from it at any moment.
Demanding attention amongst all of the night’s vehicles was this impressive 1962 Impala. The thought and finish work put into this car was quite a sight to behold. Lovingly restored and regularly driven, this beauty was filled with clean lines and attention to detail. Want to see it in person? It will be making an appearance at the upcoming Temecula Rod Run.
