L.A. Roadster Show 2013 - Part I
Hot rodders and classic car enthusiasts alike always keep Father's Day weekend reserved each year, not just to celebrate if they happen to be dads, but to attend one of the all-time great car culture events: the L.A. Roadster Show. Held at the Fairplex in Pomona, CA, the show celebrated its 49th year in grand style...Photographing so many cars each year at shows, I start to notice a pattern in the details that I always seem to gravitate towards (like how I can't seem to stay away from extra-curvaceous fenders). Whitewalls with red trim certainly seems to be a new obsession for me. I love the pairing of colors on this classic, as the red detail gives the creamy yellow and bright white scheme a bit of an edge.We tried and tried, but were unsuccessful at getting shots of these two rods without bystanders. I guess that's a compliment to the car though, as everyone, including us, wanted to get a good look at them! The Lexus motor inside this classic rod was a nice and unexpected surprise - it certainly made more than one show goer do a double take!(there I go scouting the red rimmed wheel detail again...)Loved the plastic oranges in the intakes in place of the usual tennis balls... makes me wonder if this owner is a So-Cal local who chose oranges as a historical nod to the era of this vehicle, when So-Cal was filled with orange groves.Wes and I are dying to do a garage crash on the Dunkel Bros. hot rod shop... here's hoping we can land that for you soon! The best thing about great hot rod shows like this one? They bring out the bigger and more unusual toys of the day, like this Spartan Mansion. This home on wheels was beautifully finished, complete with period details and more rivets than we could count! There's lots more hot rod goodness to come... stay tuned as we bring you the second half of our L.A. Roadster Show highlights later this week!
