Gettin' Steamy: Engines of a Different Kind
Did we mention that we found a few unusual things at the Friends of Steve McQueen Car Show?Behold the steam engine! On display was a fascinating group of fully functioning steam engines, in all their retro glory. This Allan Bros. oil engine hails from Aberdeen, Scotland, and was produced in 1911. Speed on this engine is controlled by a "hit and miss type governor. Once the engine is running at the regulated speed, it will freewheel. When the speed decreases, the engine will fire again until it once again reaches the regulated speed. The greater the load placed on the engine, the more frequently it will fire to maintain the desired speed."It was fascinating to see these vintage power houses in action. Each pop and sputter helped transport you back in time when these mechanical wonders reigned supreme in the working world. We've still got a few unusual finds to share with you... stay tuned for more!
