Dear Tatra: A Love Story (and our BEST street spot ever!)
Slight confession here: we've got it bad for Tatras. From their fantastic body lines to their ahead-of-their-time engineering, (heck, they have an air-cooled V8 in the rear!), we're obsessed. Like starting to stalk them obsessed. With the Tatras featured as one of the classes at this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, we figured we'd get to see a couple of them turn up at Monterey car week's local events. We figured the majority of them were trailer queens and not really the daily drivers that we love to see. Boy were we wrong... really, really wrong - and we were delighted to be proven otherwise.
What's that in the distance? (*rubs eyes and grabs camera*). There is NO WAY that we are seeing what we are seeing. Maybe we have gone car crazy from being immersed in gorgeous cars all week. As Sara hangs out the window with the camera, our wildest dreams are confirmed. Yep, that is a Tatra off in the distance. We were coming home on the 101 freeway, the Monday after Monterey Car Week, and saw the 1947 Tartra T87 that we had seen at both the Tour d'Elegance and at the Concours d'Lemons cruising back down to Southern California. Automotive euphoria does not even begin to describe what was going on in the car with Sara and I. It is not often that you hear of a Concours car (of any kind) driving home from the show, and to discover that one of our favorite Concours cars was really a daily driver ended up being the best moment of the whole week, not to mention the most AMAZING street spot we've ever had!Don't change lanes you might miss our next fantastic find!
