The Great Outdoors: Goodguys Del Mar 2013
The cars indoors at this weekend's Goodguys Del Mar show were certainly showstoppers, and the cars outside did not disappoint, in quality or quantity...Loving an old car often means loving the creature comforts of the car's time period, like the "factory air" on this '32 Ford. Reminds me of the 2/60 "factory air" on my '63 Nova...Chrome has always made our hearts beat a little faster, and even more so when it features the reflection of another hot rod. This '48 Chevy truck was an actual show stopper, as it was the Goodguys 2012 Early Truck of the Year. Owned by Frank and Mary Lawrence of Bakersfield, CA it features an LSX 376 with a Magnuson supercharger. This exquisitely executed truck features over 80 body modifications, and was stunning from front to back.We immediately fell in love with this Graham, the likes of which is rarely seen at hot rod shows. The sleek styling, curvaceous fenders, and a grille that means business certainly had our attention! The vintage touches on this open air rod were pitch perfect. We loved the vintage signs repurposed as the interiors of the doors. Now that's what we call recycling!Remember our love of meticulous metallics like these? The last time we saw these at a show, we longed to see them on the road. Thankfully, at Del Mar, we saw one in action - and it was even more wonderful than we had imagined.Over the years, I've done my fair share of camping... so much so that I'm not sure I'd care to go camping again anytime soon. However, if this adorable truck and trailer were involved, I'd sign up for a campsite tomorrow. Special thanks to the owners of this fabulous vacation on wheels, who let us peek inside at the perfectly themed and coordinated interior. You know how we love the unusual, and this military-inspired truck definitely intrigued us. Moving here from Massachusetts and bringing this truck along with him, the owner recently completed this project, which took about a year and a half. We congratulate him on a truck well done!We have one more special Del Mar story to share with you, one that delighted and surprised us. Stay tuned for the next installment!
