Temecula Rod Run 2013
On March 8th and 9th, rodders and fans of pre- '74 classic cars overtook Old Town Temecula for the annual Temecula Rod Run.Amidst the classic hot rods, there were a few rarely seen vintage vehicles, like this Marlin...... or this hearse, complete with zombie driver, casket, and corpse!Do you think this Marlin owner chatted with the owner of the turqoise Marlin above? I do. I think these Marlins are growing on me. I love the exaggerated geometry of these cars - their lines and proportions are so unusual compared to other vehicles of the time period.Wes and I both are huge fans of the cab-over trucks. Just like the purple cab-over we saw at the Whittier Area Classic Car Show just weeks ago, they have a unique look and an unusual yet attractive presence. We certainly wouldn't mind having a cab-over as our next project.Wes and I own a '57 Willys, and were thrilled to see this '48, which was filled with interesting details, like the Craftsman wrenches that were used as interior door pulls.Themed to perfection, this van was done with just the right mix of retro and kitsch. This '59 Buick garnered quite a bit of attention. From the lines in the paint job to the lines in the pulls, this '59 was filled with customized details that delighted hot rodders.Further proof that hot rodders will customize just about anything, right? Lucky kids. Even Fido has a teardrop trailer to cruise in.Wes has always been partial to the Corvairs, including rampside trucks like these.I love the details on this Olds - the little design touches throughout the car really lend to the overall design of the vehicle. One of only two cars with a rumble seat at the show, this hot rod was nicely finished in a classic style. There were plenty of classic and unique hot rods at the Temecula Rod Run - stay tuned and we'll bring you round two tomorrow!
