Absolutely Alluring: The 1941 Tatra T87
We had heard before coming out to the Highway Earth Car Show that there was going to be a 1941 Tatra T87 there, and to say we were excited would be an understatement. The last one we had seen in person was at The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance last year. The Tatra is an engineering marvel from Czechoslovakia, and many consider it to be the inspiration that Ferdinand Porsche used for the Volkswagen Beetle. This T87 is owned by Dydia DeLyser and Paul Greenstein. They found it for sale in New York on Ebay. It was quite a basket case when they found it, with no floor or windows, and many other parts were missing.Paul tackled portions of the restoration over a period of three years, which included making new gauges and this beautiful steering wheel. The rest of the parts were chased down or were reproductions. The small window in the back is actually two windows, and you look out the rear vented bonnet, a cool little touch. The side vents feed the much needed cool air for the...air-cooled V8 under the rear bonnet. The addition of the classic fin is a gorgeous design detail that we absolutely love.We can't forget this little guy, Harpo, who had just as many admirers as the Tatra did. Thanks to Paul and Dydia for taking the time to share their fantastic vehicle with us!There is more to come The Highway Earth Car Show, so stick around!
