Petersen Automotive Museum: America's Most Beautiful Roadsters
Recently we were at the Petersen Automotive Museum to hear Bob Lutz speak for Motoman. This 1933 Ford Roadster called "Double Dozen" was a 2011 AMBR contender. It was designed by Chris Ito and built by Steve's Auto Restoration. There are many modern twists in this hand built car, including a supercharged Mustang Cobra motor.
A Chip Foose design, this 1932 Ford Roadster called "0032 Roadster" is a 2000 AMBR winner.
This 1937 Ford "Alien" Roadster is the 1969 AMBR winner. This roadster was hand built by Mike and Art Himsl and it was featured in the August 1969 Rod and Custom magazine.
This 1933 "Possessed" Roadster was the 2010 AMBR winner. Built like the custom coach built cars of the 30's, it even had custom luggage to go with the car.
This roadster is the original AMBR winner from 1950. Built by Bill Niekamp in 1949, this roadster borrows from many different vehicles. Though currently not on display at the Petersen, it is a great example of what a roadster can be. It serves as another reminder of why the roadster has remained such an icon. We have no doubt that its legendary status will endure for many years to come.
