Monterey Historic Races: In the Pits

There's always interesting cars to see at a race like this one that draws a diverse crowd, although we weren't expecting to see this...LSeca-IMG_4067rImagine looking in the rear view mirror and the car is staring back at you.  On the track, this might be a good strategy to distract your opponents.LSeca-IMG_4072rLSeca-IMG_4073rLSeca-IMG_4074rLSeca-IMG_4075rSara and I always like a supercharged car - check out this belt driven beauty.LSeca-IMG_4077rLSeca-IMG_4087rLSeca-IMG_4089rIt is not always good to see a car in pieces after qualifying, so we hoped this scene was due to some suspension adjustments for the next race.LSeca-IMG_4090rLSeca-IMG_4091rLSeca-IMG_4092rLSeca-IMG_4093rLSeca-IMG_4095rLSeca-IMG_4099rLSeca-IMG_4100rLSeca-IMG_4104rLSeca-IMG_4114rLSeca-IMG_4117rLSeca-IMG_4118rLSeca-IMG_4120rLSeca-IMG_4139rAs we are walking down a row of race cars, we spotted this Alfa Romeo... but that was not the only thing that caught our eye...LSeca-IMG_4140r... this dog was sitting in the chair next to his owner. As we approached the car, he got off the chair and laid down next to it, earmuffs and all. This was definitely one of our favorite shots of the weekend!LSeca-IMG_4151rLSeca-IMG_4154rLSeca-IMG_4156rLSeca-IMG_4157rLSeca-IMG_4166rLSeca-IMG_4167rLSeca-IMG_4170rLSeca-IMG_4174rWhile we were driving in Monterey, we spotted a Morgan 3-Wheeler on the street.  Sad that we did not get a chance to see it up close, we were happy to be lucky enough to spot this one in the pits.LSeca-IMG_4175rLSeca-IMG_4176rLSeca-IMG_4217rLSeca-IMG_4218rLSeca-IMG_4219rLSeca-IMG_4222rLSeca-IMG_4246rLSeca-IMG_4247rLSeca-IMG_4248rLSeca-IMG_4250rLSeca-IMG_4251rLSeca-IMG_4252rThe aluminum work was beautiful on this car, but what was under the hood was just as amazing.LSeca-IMG_4253rLSeca-IMG_4254rAn Ardun powered small block - not something you see everyday.LSeca-IMG_4255rLSeca-IMG_4256rLSeca-IMG_4257rLSeca-IMG_4258rLSeca-IMG_4259rLSeca-IMG_4261rLSeca-IMG_4262rLSeca-IMG_4263rThe Tatum GMC Special has a fascinating background. It originated from a bet among friends that one of them could not build a competitive race car from scratch and be competitive against the European racers of the time. Well the Tatum is the end result of that bet, and it really is a winner!LSeca-IMG_4269rLSeca-IMG_4270rLSeca-IMG_4272rLSeca-IMG_4293rLSeca-IMG_4294rLSeca-IMG_4295rLSeca-IMG_4315rLSeca-IMG_4319rLSeca-IMG_4320rLSeca-IMG_4321rLSeca-IMG_4322rLSeca-IMG_4324rLSeca-IMG_4327rThe fun thing about going to the Monterey Motorsports Reunion is being able to see all of these cars are driven and at the same time, pushed to their limits on the track. We will be wrapping up our visit to the Historics later this week, so stay tuned for the last installment!
