Hot Rod Homecoming 2013

The iconic Hot Rod Magazine celebrated its 65th birthday in grand style with a Hot Rod Homecoming at the Pomona Fairplex this past weekend. The show included 75 cars from Hot Rod covers over the years, which were accompanied by a wonderful collection of hot rods that gathered outside the feature buildings...IMG_0448rIMG_0449rIMG_0450rIMG_0451rIMG_0452rIMG_0453rIMG_0454rIMG_0456rIMG_0455r IMG_1959rIMG_1960rIMG_1961rIMG_1965rIMG_1964rIMG_1963rIMG_1966rThere were plenty of cars to greet us upon arrival, including a number of stylized vehicles, like this tunnel ram rod. We've continued to see more of these types of vehicles at shows, proving that distressed rods still remain popular amongst customized project cars.IMG_1967rIMG_1968rIMG_1969rIMG_1970rIMG_1971rIMG_1972rIMG_1973rIMG_1974rIMG_1975rIMG_1976rIMG_1977rIMG_1979rFilled with exquisite wood work and themed with a surf-inspired interior, this van was a hit with show goers.IMG_1980rIMG_1981rWe loved the custom detailing on this truck, including the flamed cutouts, which showed off the engine in a unique way.IMG_1993rIMG_1994rIMG_1995rIMG_1996rIMG_1997rIMG_1998rIMG_2000rIMG_2001rIMG_2006rIMG_2007rIMG_2008rIMG_2009rIMG_2010rIMG_2012rIMG_2013rThis stylized "male" truck was an interesting take on a vintage postal delivery vehicle, and included every possible detail, right down to the distressed engine, the passenger sign and the vintage padlock on the back.IMG_2003rIMG_2004rIMG_2005rParked quietly amongst the many hot rods outside, this '31 Ford Model A Roadster took our breath away. This blown and injected Pontiac 4 cylinder is owned by Rich Ralstin of Covina, California, this side mount equals engine compartment genius in our book.Consider this first taste of the show as just the tip of the iceberg. There are many more incredible cars to show you this week, be sure to stay tuned to see the "where are they now" of Hot Rod Magazine cover cars!
