Fame on the World's Fair Stage: The 1939 Plymouth Convertible Coupe

Join us as we examine one of our vintage finds from the 2014 Greystone Mansion Concours d'Elegance...GC14-DSC_0031rThis '39 Plymouth is owned by Dick Messer, former Director of the Petersen Automotive Museum. GC14-DSC_0042rGC14-DSC_0038rWith just under 6,000 convertibles built and far less in existence today, the '39 convertible has become quite the collector's item.GC14-DSC_0036rGC14-DSC_0032rGC14-DSC_0039r1939 marked the last year of the rumble seat for these Plymouths.GC14-DSC_0040rThe '39 Plymouth had one of its most famous moments during the 1939 New York World's Fair, where Chrysler's 3D film In Tune with Tomorrow was a huge hit with visitors.

Viewers paid 25 cents to view the film through these Plymouth-shaped 3D glasses.  The film featured the full assembly of a '39 Plymouth, and was seen by over one and a half million people over the course of the fair.
