Defining Fabulous

The dictionaries give several definitions of fabulous, including: astonishing, incredible, extraordinary, amazingly good, and wonderful.  There's a reason this past weekend's show was called Fabulous Fords Forever, and here at the Daily Driver Project, our definition of the word fabulous certainly includes the following vehicles...You know how we love a fully themed car, and this gorgeous Galaxie in classic black was filled with fine pinstriping and spiderweb details.  Take note of the little spiderweb in the first Galaxie emblem, and the black widow spider carefully crafted into the pinstriping above.  If a spider's web is built to trap prey, then consider us caught in this Galaxie's web!When you attend as many car shows as we do, you tend to see a few familiar faces. In this case, it's a member of the Octane Angels, an all girl car club (they don't just drive them, they work on them too) that we featured in this 1962 Falcon Car Crash.Imagine our delight when we turned a corner to take in another row of Fords and found this Ranchero, which we immediately recognized as the righteous ride of our fellow hot rodder Tim, from Valley Village.  Check our our Car Crash on his fantastic '65 BBQ Ranchero here and find out why he owns a Ranchero... and a half.This Edsel had one interesting little detail that we almost missed upon first glance.  Notice the license plate frame, an original from F&L Edsel, a specialty dealership in Hayward, Ca.  A little digging online led us to this old sales ad from the F&L Edsel dealership...Notice how the ad announces the Edsel as the "newest car on wheels" - anyone else besides us wondering what else a car might be on, if not wheels?  Mid-century marketing genius?  We think so.  (Photo courtesy of Edsel.net)It's easy to love the Sunbeam Tiger, a pint-sized powerhouse with a V8 under the hood.  They don't show up at car shows often, and there were only a couple at this event.  The last time we saw one, it was at the Grand National Roadster Show.There's no resisting the charm of a cab-over truck.  Need another cab-over fix?  If so, click here!This classic Starliner was a stunner - we particularly loved the wide window openings of this coupe - we could only imagine that a ride with the windows down in this beauty would probably be as close to a convertible feel as you could get!Talk about a complete look... even the driver has the goggles to match his rad ride!Imagine stepping onto a new car lot today and seeing a window sticker with 5 MPG city and 12 MPG highway.  Yet somehow, if it was because we'd get to drive this Fairlane every day, we'd think it was worth it!What better place to leave off today than with this retractable hard top convertible... shown here in mid-flight.  A technical wonder of its day, dealers often had their showroom model frozen in mid-retract to demonstrate the wonder of this car, as shown in this photo of a vintage dealership's sales floor.  What I particularly love is that in this glamorous photo of the showroom floor, you can't help but laugh that no one thought to wait until the mechanic hiding under the dash was finished!There's more Ford fabulousness to share with you this week, so be sure to stay tuned... we're not done yet!
