Art Center Car Classic 2013 – Part 2

On Wednesday, we brought you part one of the Art Center Car Classic, and today there's more show goodness to share...ACCC13-IMG_5548rThe sun graced us with its presence - this time, in the form of a Mini.ACCC13-IMG_5549rACCC13-IMG_5552rACCC13-IMG_5555rThis was one of two classic roadsters at the show. This 1929 Ford Roadster was a great piece of history for the Art Center students to study, draw, and photograph.ACCC13-IMG_5553rJonathan Ward of Icon brought out this 1946 Lincoln Club Coupe which is part of the Icon Derelict vehicles he produces. It may look like a beater on the outside, but this rod has the heart of a modern car.ACCC13-IMG_5564rHe also brought this 1950 Chevrolet Thriftmaster Pickup, also part of his Icon Resto-Mod of vehicles. This rod is also is running a modern drivetrain with all the amenities.ACCC13-IMG_5565rThis little 1947 Fiat Topolino reminded me of Cars 2 and Luigi's (the Fiat) Uncle Topolino, who they visited while in Italy...ACCC13-IMG_5567r... then we headed around back to check out the luggage and noticed the perfect license plate.ACCC13-IMG_5615rThis Bugatti had plenty of stellar details...ACCC13-IMG_5616r... including the pontoon fenders with the polished tips ...ACCC13-IMG_5617r... the beautiful wood dash...ACCC13-IMG_5618r... and you can't beat the custom luggage behind the front seats. We're suckers for the luggage that comes with vintage cars, perfectly designed to fit into whatever space was available.ACCC13-IMG_5619rACCC13-IMG_5620rACCC13-IMG_5624rThis 1930 Bugatti Type 46 Petite Royale Gaston Grummer really caught our attention.ACCC13-IMG_5627rThe classic standing elephant was designed by Rembrandt Bugatti, the younger brother of Ettore Bugatti, who built these cars.ACCC13-IMG_5621rThis beautiful engine was definitely a showstopper - more like a show starter!  Further proof that Bugattis are gorgeous, both inside and out.ACCC13-IMG_5630rACCC13-IMG_5631rIt was fun to see the crystal vases and fully stocked bar - talk about riding in style!ACCC13-IMG_5629rAnother set of custom fit luggage that fit perfectly into the add-on trunk.ACCC13-IMG_5628rACCC13-IMG_5632rCheck out this 1961 Kelly Corvette Coupe built by Vignale of Italy, a coachbuilder who reimagined standard production cars.ACCC13-IMG_5633rACCC13-IMG_5634rACCC13-IMG_5635rACCC13-IMG_5636rACCC13-IMG_5638rJust in case you weren't sure what type of car this was...ACCC13-IMG_5639r...this artistic rendering was there to help you figure it out.ACCC13-IMG_5641rSo... this isn't quite a vintage car, but how could we not show you a Rocketeer-inspired, Art Deco beauty like this 2013 Randy Grubb Decopod Scooter?ACCC13-IMG_5642rACCC13-IMG_5643rACCC13-IMG_5644rThe best part was that kids and adults alike were encouraged to get in and try on the helmet!ACCC13-IMG_5645rACCC13-IMG_5646rACCC13-IMG_5647rACCC13-IMG_5668rThe second roadster at the show, powered by a Hemi, was simply classic.ACCC13-IMG_5670rA pair of great looking red Chevrolets sat next to each other. First came this 1962 Chevrolet "409" Coupe...ACCC13-IMG_5672r...and then this 1952 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup.ACCC13-IMG_5675rACCC13-IMG_5676rACCC13-IMG_5677rThis 1937 Rolls-Royce Phantom III Sport Saloon shows what a classic British luxury car should be.ACCC13-IMG_5679rACCC13-IMG_5680rACCC13-IMG_5678rACCC13-IMG_5682rWe are big fans of the older Alfa Romeos, and this 1938 Alfa Romeo 6C 2300B Mille Miglia Berlinetta is no exception.  The swooping lines and angled back design makes it appear to be moving, even when sitting still.ACCC13-IMG_5684rACCC13-IMG_5686rACCC13-IMG_5683r

How fitting that it made the trek to the Art Center, as if to revisit its birth place.ACCC13-IMG_5699rACCC13-IMG_5701rACCC13-IMG_5707rThis 1955 Ford Thunderbird Convertible Coupe...ACCC13-IMG_5711r...and this 1964 Alfa Romeo Tubolare Zagato reminded me of being at Laguna Seca just months ago for the historic races, where a T-Bird and Alfas ran the track.ACCC13-IMG_5709rA great looking 1965 Aston Martin Short Chassis Vintage Volante was at the show, and we stopped by to say happy 100th birthday to Aston Martin!ACCC13-IMG_5714rNot many of the Sport 800s exist! This 1967 Toyota Sport 800 is even more rare as a left-hand drive car.ACCC13-IMG_5716rAlso attempting to steal the show was this 1956 Ferrari 250 GTZ Berlinetta Zagato, but another nearby car was more successful...ACCC13-IMG_5718rDoes the 1961 Fiat Jolly 500 by Ghia make you  think of an island vacation? Maybe a ride at Disneyland? Whatever you have in mind, this thing is cute (and I don't usually say cars are cute).ACCC13-IMG_5719rACCC13-IMG_5720rCheck out the rattan seats. Do you think Ghia raided somebody's porch for those?ACCC13-IMG_5721rACCC13-IMG_5722rACCC13-IMG_5727rThis 1958 Morgan 4/4 was beautiful...ACCC13-IMG_5729rACCC13-IMG_5730r...and had a wonderful view of the field at Art Center.ACCC13-IMG_5731r1954 Siata 208 RoadsterACCC13-IMG_5733r1963 Lotus EliteACCC13-IMG_5724r1960 Ferrari 250 Pininfarina CoupeACCC13-IMG_5735rOne of the earliest  Porsches built (the first year of production was 1948), this 1949 Porsche Gmund Coupe was one of only 25 built in 1949.ACCC13-IMG_5745rACCC13-IMG_5746rACCC13-IMG_5747rACCC13-IMG_5748rACCC13-IMG_5749rThe Art Center Car Classic is not a show to be missed.  With the incredible cars on display this year, we can't wait to see what will be at the show next year!
