2014 Temecula Rod Run – Part II

Itchin' for more from the Temecula Rod Run?  We feel the same way, so let's get the second part of this car party started!That's right, within the span of a few weeks, we've been lucky enough to see two Plymouth Furys (the last one was at WACC), this time in the form of a beautiful blue '60 owned by Gary Browne.The top and bottom portions of the original steering wheel were too far gone, so Gary decided to take them off, which left him with this interesting shape, almost as if it was intended.  With original replacement steering wheels going for over $1,000 each on eBay, Gary decided that this version was both a stylish and economical option - and we agree!Talk about a head-turner, every detail on this VW bus was a crowd-pleaser.  We walked the show several times, and each time we passed it, there was a crowd of people taking a peek of the inside and out!Can you tell we're a little obsessed with the split-fins on this copper-colored Catalina?So... we don't normally cover boats here at the Daily Driver Project, but this 1938 Gar Wood 22' Model 915 Stream Liner "Empress" was a hit with the Temecula Rod Run crowd.  With only 23 ever made and only 7 known to exist today, it's no wonder everyone stopped to marvel at it!This all-steel Lincoln Zephyr snagged a top spot in our favorites from the show.  How can you not fall in love with its lines, and that grille?Subtle pinstriping and small and smartly placed details were everywhere on this Zephyr, and in all the right places.We've seen quite a few unique pinstriping pieces in our day, but in our opinion, this one takes the cake.When rods with perfect patina first came on the scene, we wondered if the trend would hold.  We can say with confidence that it has long surpassed trendy and is now becoming a very distinct and unique genre all its own.  The rods in this category, like this one here, are getting better with each year.Victor Cacho's 1936 Auburn gave us all a lesson in what a hot rod can look like when the builder approaches the car with an unbridled vision.Check out the shifter on this classic rod - a spiderweb - complete with a black widow inside!Bright blue and with pinstriped accents, Tim Yoder's 1948 Ford Anglia 2-door sedan was a powerhouse under the hood.Sometimes, like with this black and red rod, the best details can be found in the most unexpected places, like the roof!It takes a lot of love to keep a classic '61 Impala like this in such pristine original condition!We're awfully glad that Brian Farris brought his '39 Ford Cab-over-engine to the show - you know how we feel about a good COE!You've seen the biggest portions of the show, but we have just a bit more to show you on Friday... stay tuned!
